What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are artificial replacements or prosthetics. Lost teeth can be replaced by implants to give you a prettier, more natural looking smile and healthier bite.

Although there are many options for restoring missing teeth, dental implants are the most effective and longest lasting. Dental Implants prevent bone degeneration commonly seen with dentures, and enable you to eat all the foods you love without concern, and are not suceptible to cavities. They can even be used in conjunction with bridges or dentures to increase stability and reduce gum tissue irritation.

How are Dental Implants Inserted?

Dental Implants consist of a titanium screw and a crown. Under sedation, a tiny hole is drilled into the mandible. After the implant screw is placed, a protective cover screw is put on top so the implant can heal and become anchored in the bone. The anchoring process may take several months.

When the implant is anchored properly in the bone, the protective cover is removed and a temporary crown is added to allow the gums to grow around the new tooth. When this has occurred, you will be fitted for a permanent crown.
